Hood will not open.
My wife's Silverado z71(1500), I tried to open the hood, and it would not open.
I pulled on the handle and it does not feel like the cable it broken. I can come to that bridge when I get the hood open. Does anyone know how to get the hood open. I tried to push the lever on the hood lock but that did not work. So does anyone know what to do to get the hood open.

Re: Hood will not open.
On my 1984 (Silverado), after pulling the lever inside the cab, I had to hit the hood directly in the center of the hood (rather hard several times) to get the latch to finally give. I'm not sure if this would do it... but you could try.

Anything is worth a try, especially if I can avoid taking the truck to the stealership.

Re: Hood will not open.
You can try pulling the lever then smacking the hood or have someone push down on the hood while you pull the lever.
another thing that works is to have them smack the hood real hard where it latches while you pull the lever. Sometimes if you let the hood slam it gets jammed. If none of this works you could see if you can get your arm up to the latch and try to unlatch the hood with your fingers maybe a screwdrive. Had to do that with my last car since someone actually stole my hood latch lever and cable but thats another story.

Re: Hood will not open.
Quote:
WITH THE release lever held to the release position just push down on the hood...this will usually release the binding latch... with the hood open adjust the latch upwards 1/4 inch,,and then check the hood adjustable stops left/right for the hood not to move when closed. lubricate the latch with some lithium grease/and a little oil.. the hood should close with just the weight of the falling hood...slamming closed causes the latch to be driven downward,,then the problem repeats. |

Re: Hood will not open.
hey guys he said his cable is broke, not latch is jammed. all are void if its broke, EXCEPT the one about getting your arm up in there and manually working the mechanism.

Re: Hood will not open.
Actually the opposite. OP said the cable did not feel broke.
