1986 Dodge Ram Van speedometer problems

I have a 1986 ram van. It was given to me by my in-laws and I have had it for about a week. The speedometer, odometer and cruise control features do not work. I changed the fuse but that did not help. I read somewhere that it could be a speed sensor, but I dont know if the 86 has a speed sensor. Has anyone had this problem? If it is something easy that I can do myself, I want to do that, instead of taking it to a garage.

Check on the side of the tranny for the speed sensor...driver's side, rear. If there is a sensor there, replace it. If there is instead a cable, then it likely snapped and will need replacing.

What do you think would be the cost of this repair, if i take it to a shop? I can't find the transmission because it is stuck up under the car.

i had to change a speed sensor on a dodge ram because of this problem.

I think the check engine code pops up on this error too if its electrical!
