My transmission hesitates

Alright. I have an 01 passport with an automatic transmission. the passport itself runs ok, but the transmission, not so much. From a dead stop, you press on the accelerator, the engine revs, but you don't move. Then the tranny shifts hard into first and off you go. Sometimes it will start out fine, then around 10 mph it feels like the tranny slips out of gear then back in real briefly. Is this a maintenance thing that I can take care of or do I need to take it to a shop and have it rebuilt, or what? I hope you guys have some good news, I could really use it.

Re: My transmission hesitates

It may be just low on fluid.

Re: My transmission hesitates

I am kind of wondering that myself. I pulled the fill plug from the transmission, put a hose in there with a pump. The fluid just dumped all over me. I'm pretty sure the hose was in far enough, but there is no good way to tell if I even got fluid into the tranny. Either way, it was no use. What I'm thinking after reading some similar posts is pulling the pan and checking the filter. While the car was under warranty, I took it in to have everything serviced. But I really have no idea what all they did. The tranny could have been at another service date. I have to do an oil change this weekend, so I think I will check the filter then also.

Re: My transmission hesitates

Did you check the fluid level with the engine running? If not, you are even lower than you started.
