crank pulley slipping????
I have a 95 rodeo v-6 and noticed that after charging a/c to 38lbs that compressor kicks on and off repeatedly. More importantly, crank pulley seems to be the two piece variety and drive pulley that operates a/c seems to slow down while pulley that operates alternator spins normal. What is the normal op pressure for a/c system and if i relieve some pressure will this fix the slipping problem?

People that don't know anything about A/C shouldn't be messing with it.

Please enlighten me cat--ru an expert that may be able to help me? I actually do know a/c systems--just not familiar with the rodeo and it's specs. Thanks.

I know enough to let an expert mess with it. A/C all works on the same principles no matter what car it is. I do know that you don't simply add freon until a certain pressure is reached. It's not a tire. Each A/C system takes a certain amount of freon measured by weight, not pressure. I feel those little do-it-yourself kits sold at Walmart cause more problems than they solve and should be banned.

I understand and appreciate your honesty but thats what these forums are for so people who may not necessarily be mechanics can learn how to fix it or either be pointed in the right direction so they can let a qualified person fix it for them. There are some really smart people on here (you included... you helped me years ago fix several things on my car on this site) so without a doubt you can at least get the info you need on here to prepare yourself for what kind of repair you're looking at.

Fixed--thanks for all the info--about an hour job. Old balancer, once off, was slipping--actually spun freely. Installed new one and problem is solved. What a semi-poor design--i guess it's supposed to dampen noise and vibration from accessories.
