2000 grand am 4-cly Radiator fan & a/c not working
Friends,
My 2000 Grand Am radiator fans and Air-conditioning is not working. The fan never comes on causing the overheat. The Air conditioning clicks are not heard and no cold air comes. The rad fan does not work when the a/c is turned on. I have checked all fuses and they are fine. The connector at coolant temperature sensor measures 5 volts. The sensor itself shows the resistance values but not exactly as mentioned on this forum. Please tell where can I start and what do I do? Thanks in advance. Jay |

Re: 2000 grand am 4-cly Radiator fan & a/c not working
There are also relays as well as fuses that control the rad & AC. Have you also checked the relays? One of the fans is supposed to come on when operating the AC, and the other is supposed to come on at 220 F to cool radiator. There are also relays located on passenger side near firewall but I'm not familiar with them as much. Zero & some of the other "gurus" will be better able to head you in the right direction.

Yeah, I would say it's most likely the relays under the hood fuse box drivers side. Their are no relays on the pass side under the hood. Just the fuse box on the pass end of the dash, none are for the AC or fans.
Both usually always come on when you turn on the AC. I actually used to use this to keep my car cooler by kicking on the fans and turning off the AC. The fans usually run 10-15 mins.

Re: 2000 grand am 4-cly Radiator fan & a/c not working
I changed the temperature sensor and the 2 fans comes on at slow speed. Is this correct?
I also jumpered the 2 connection on relay 16 for a/c. I still do not hear the a/c clutch clicking noise. What shall I do next? Please reply. Thanks. |

Re: 2000 grand am 4-cly Radiator fan & a/c not working
Finally it is working guys. Thanks to all of you here tried helping.
I have changed the temp control sensor. I also disconnected all grounds and reinstalled them (don't know if it helped). The clutch was not engaging...I used WD40 last night and soaked the clutch side. Today I jumpered the relay and it finally clicked. The A/c is working now. ![]() Thanks again. ![]() Jay Last edited by jayjp200; 08-18-2009 at 11:36 PM. Reason: Update |

Re: 2000 grand am 4-cly Radiator fan & a/c not working
i have a 2001 2.4. i had the high pressure hose, kinda curves from the top inlet down by the fans and to the compressor i think. anyway, the hose beat against the fan shroud so much and for so long it wore a tiny hole in the hose. the pressure is high enough to blow all the coolant out. didnt know if you may have the same problem, so i thought i would put it out there. hope it helps
