HELP!! scan Communication Error

Tring to scan my wifes 98 Malibu and keep getting a Unable to Establish Communications with Vehical. Says to check
Connection from scanner to vehical,
Power and Ground,
Wiring and Fuses.

Is there a fuse somewhere for the OBD connection??

Tried scanning with a OTC Genisys and a Autoxray 6000 and get the same thing on both scanners. They both work on my Ford F150.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Pete

The cig fuse powers the diagnostics.

The cig fuse didn't blow right away again by chance did it? Maybe you could plug your scanner into another GM obd2 vehicle just to make sure the scanner has the right software, although I can't imagine that it doesn't.

Re: HELP!! scan Communication Error

If I push the lighter in it blows, but the scanner didn't blow it. The scanner has the right software. It works on my sister-in-laws chevy. It has to have a short someplace. That might be why the ABS light is on.

Thanks for the help.

Re: HELP!! scan Communication Error

I know this thread is 6 months old, but I forgot about it. Wanted to let everyone know that the problem was the (EBCM) Electronic Brake Control Module. The wires coming out of it were melted and shorted out, thats why I couldn't get a reading with my scanner. The aluminum housing was so corroded that I could put my finger through it. Tracing the wires in the harness was a pain in the butt.

Hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.
