egr valve problem

i got a free check engine light test from autozone and the results were: "improper voltage level on the output driver module for the EGR control solenoid. open or short circuit condition in the driver circuit. failed EGR control solenoid."

What exactly does this mean? What needs to be replace, is it expensive, easy to do?
They said they dont carry the part in there store so they couldnt help me out.

my car trembles like its going to die every so often, it actually did once, when im at a stop.

Re: egr valve problem

egr is very expensive, it could be something with wires related to egr (short open) I asked you earlier just put the code number, because it is easier to find the solution. But looks like you do not want to be helped. I also see that yahoo answers did not offer you much help.

Re: egr valve problem

Code: P1655...

I apologize for not monitoring my post all day 3100, but I figured since this is a forum, that I would come back later and look for answers. I haven't had any problems on this site yet but i guess there's a first for everything. Maybe I'll just stick with Yahoo Answers. Your attitude isn't the most welcoming.

Re: egr valve problem

You were online, when I asked you for code. You need help not me. If someone is willing to help you be happy and cooperate with them give them more details if they need. Anyway, your code has nothing to do with the EGR, it is about EVAP, and I did not mean to hurt your feelings.

anyway here is what you need to do: I even simplified since the manual is mentioning driver circuits etc so instead to confuse you with driver circuits I told you the exact colors of the wires. And let me know if you get something even close at the other places
And remember my friend this place is not for crying this is where hard working men come to discuss their experiences and knowledge about cars engraved with sweat, oil, scars burns and bloody knuckles. Here are several simple steps that you need to do and I hope you can handle it. Good luck

1. ignition off, disconnect pcm, ignition ON
2. use dvom and measure voltage between the pin 30 of the blue pcm connector and any ground if you get battery voltage go to step 3
3. set Dvom to 10Amp scale, put one test lead to pin 30 and the other to good ground observe current reading for 2 min. Does the current reading remain between 0.1 and 1.5 Amp if yes go to step 11, if no go to step 4.
4. disconnect the evap canister purge solenoid valve (that is the solenoid on the black bracket between cylinders 1 and 5 and above o2 sensor) leave the pcm disconnected. Using Dvom measure voltage between the dark green/white wire and ground did you get 0V if yes go to step 14 if not go to step 5
5. locate and repair short to voltage in the dark green/white wire
6. check the fuse for the EVAP canister purge solenoid.(ERLS 20A) is the fuse blown? if yes go to 7 if not go to 8
7. locate and repair short to ground in the pink wire of the same evap solenoid connector and replace the fuse
8. ignition on, measure voltage between the pink wire at the connector and good ground, is the voltage close to battery voltage? if yes go to step 9 if no go to 13.
9. check the dark green/white wire for short to ground or open and repair the wire. Did you find the problem? if yes go to 16. if no go to 10
10. check the evap solenoid connector for poor connections and pin 30 of the blue pcm connector for poor connection if problem is found replace bad terminals. was the problem found? if yes go to 16 if no go to 14
11. ignition off, reconnect pcm and disconnect the EVAP canister purge solenoid , ignition on, connect a test light between the dark green/white wire at the connector and pink wire of the same connector, use the scan tool to command evap canister purge solenoid on and off, does the light flash on and off? if yes go to diagnostic aids if no go to 12
12. check terminal 30 of the blue pcm connector for poor terminal connection. was the problem found? if yes 16 if no 15
13. locate and repair open in pink wire. was the problem found? yes 16 no -------
14. replace evap canister purge solenoid is action complete? yes 16 no -----------
15. replace the pcm. If you replace pcm it will have to be reprogrammed. is action complete? yes 16 no ------
16. ignition on, engine off review and record scan tool fail records data, clear dtcs, drive vehicle within the fail records conditions , using a scan tool monitor specific dtc info for dtc p1655. does scan tool indicate dtc p1655 failed this ignition?

also, check that the vacuum lines are connected to the sensor it shoud be two of them. So listen for any vacuum leaks around the evap solenoid area.

diagnostic aids:
basically check for bad terminals wires etc.
