Help buying a 1998 Chevy Blazer

Want to know what everyone thinks about 1998 chevy blazers and whether or not it is worth 4500 to buy one with only 60000 on it

correction--ok one of my relatives was the one that told me that it had 60000 miles on it, but when we went with his friend to go look at it, it has 176,000 so is that still a good deal

oh and another question whats the max milege for chevy blazers

Re: Help buying a 1998 Chevy Blazer

that is definately a good price for that truck. wonder why the price is that low. is it being sold by a private seller? what kind of blazer, 2dr, 4dr, ZR2? overall they are a good truck. i would recomend getting a carfax report on it to make sure it has not been wrecked or anything like that. if you are not mechanically inclinded, have mechanic look it over and if possible scan the computer for codes. i looked at 2 98's and the OBD 2 diagnostic port did not work, which it needs to or you can not read codes or pass an emissions test. These trucks also like to go through front suspension parts quickly like ball joints, wheel bearings, hubs, tie rod ends, idler arms, things like that so make sure nothing is worn out on it. As for the engine, the lower intake gaskets tend to go up around 100,000 miles but with the one your looking at have 60,000 on it that should not be an issue right now. They do not get great gas mileage either, about 14-16 city and 17-19 hwy. If its a 4x4, test it and make sure it all three modes work ok.

Re: Help buying a 1998 Chevy Blazer

The price looks about right to me.
My '98 just crossed 150k and is still going strong. It's a 4d, 4wd.
I'm about to replace ball-joints and take a closer look at the other front-end parts, but I've spent very little on it in the 5 or 6 years I've had it.
It had 100k when I bought it. Drive it every day. Take it off-road in the mountains several times per year and do fairly long highway trips at least 5 or 6 times per year. Even drove it from Washington State to Washington, DC pulling a u-haul - almost 3,000 miles - had to remind myself about the trailer 'cause the truck didn't care.
I do have some heater issues, but never anything more major.
Good luck.

Re: Help buying a 1998 Chevy Blazer

A vehicle with that kind of mileage the price IMHO is TOO HIGH. I paid $5000 for a 97 with 87,000 miles & a 30 day warranty from the dealer & I feel I paid too much for it. But it is a good truck had some issues that where covered under the warranty but for the last year & half has served us well.
I bought a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.9 with a 120,000 miles for $3300. Look around you can buy one with less miles for the same or less money.
As for mileage as a retired mechanic about 250,000 miles & they are pretty wore out.
