oil filter relocation
hey i cant seem to find any info on the oil filter relocation process...
i have to get one, bc my filter sticks out really low to the ground and im tired of slamming it into speed bums and pot holes... my question is, i see pictures of the kit, but im a little unclear as to whats actually happening in the install...like does anybody know how/what this kit does...or anyone veer installed one? thanks-

Re: oil filter relocation
let me correct myself...
i know how it works, and how it installs, what i dont understand is, does it have to be mounted so that the bottom of the filter is still facing downward? or does the position of it not matter or...

Re: oil filter relocation
Why not just get a shorter filter? Thats what I did so mine didn't hang down with the oil cooler adapter

Re: oil filter relocation
well, the thought had crossed my mind, but heres the problem...
once upon a time when i had a full sized oil filter filter, and was going down a road in the back country around here, i missed a turn, so i pulled off on the side of the road, attempted to do a u'ey, and then it happened... apparently i dipped quickly into a pothole that i didnt see on the side of the road, and straight slammed the filter into the ground...long story short...it punctured a hole in it, all my oil ran out about 2 miles later, and since then, everytime i change the oil, i notice that the filter, if you grab it, is loose.... like, not loose as in not threaded tight enough...but loose as in, if u grab it, you can move it around...somethings not right... although its not leaking oil... but yeah, i was thinking, possibly, this relocation kit could rig up a remedy for this problem, unless you have a better suggestion as to what might be(the problem) loose...

Re: oil filter relocation
Next time you change your oil maybe you should inspect the parts on the block that hold it on. You shouldn't have damaged anything that I can think of. And if there is a problem relocating the filter isin't going to fix it. Why is your filter hanging down so low anyways. It should be level with the bottom of the pan.

Re: oil filter relocation
Well, it is now...of coarse, ive actually since used a shorter filter liek you suggested...
but im worried about it being able to be moved around... ill thoroughly inspect it soon when i change the oil, and possibly record a video of me moving it around like it does...maybe that will help in the diagnosis... thanks though

Re: oil filter relocation
That whole oil filter housing can be taken off the block. Its been a while since I put my motor together so Im not sure if you could take it off while the block is still in the car but there is really only 2 pieces there. The threads that the oil filter screws on to and the part it seals against. Im betting those thread and loose and thats why the oil filter can move. I would remove all of that and see what you messed up. I believe I have all of those parts an my spare block so if you find something broken and need one of those parts I should have them.
