1995 Crown Vic Hard 1-2 shift

I'll be working on my moms 1995 Crown Vic with 92kmi, brakes and tranny work. I'm planning on changing out the fluid and filter, including draining the converter, and the question I have is this: The 1-2 shift on her car is very harsh, even under moderate to light throttle. My dad thinks that the dealer made an adjustment to lessen this when the car was bought used many years back, but he's not sure. What do you guys think I should be looking at here? I saw a thread on a similar issue and it was recommended to look at the 1-2 accumulator spring which may be broken?. Where is this located in this transmission? Sorry I don't know much about the tranny in these cars. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

Joe

Re: 1995 Crown Vic Hard 1-2 shift

Hi Joe. More than likely the 1-2 shift accumulator spring is broken. When you have the pan off the transmission, look to the front drivers side(I think). You will see a round metal cap about the size if a baseball. Push it up and remove the locking ring. You will see a couple of springs in there. Make sure you install them the same way when you re-install the accumulator. Ford sells the springs. They are not too costly and it is an easy repair. Let us know if you need a diagram and we will look for one for you.
