Porsche Boxster [Tamiya]

Hi,
I recently started another quick project (to take a brake from an f1 kit I'm building). It's a regular curbside easy and pleasant Tamiya kit. Nice details and near perfect fitment.
So far I managed to paint and polish the body shell, strip chrome from and paint the wheels, and started working on the chassis.
Here are some pictures of where we are with this procect at the moment:

I used Tamiya ts-55 dark blue and finnisher's urethane clear for the body. Wheels were painted with ts-17

I hope you like it

Cheers
Emil

The process is pretty easy really. I spray the base color, wait till it dries then sand it lightly if necessary with hasegawa sanding cloths or tamiya #2000 paper. Then clearcoat it (usually with finnisher's 2K clear). Then I wet sand it again tamiya #2000 or hasegawa or 3M (or all of them). Then Tamiya compounds (all 3) - it's the most time consuming part but well worth the effort, and finally hasegawa coating polymer (or tamiya wax) and voilá
It's my favourite part of every build

I hope this description will be usefull

Cheers
Emil

I've said it once, I'll say it again - your skill to finish others with your finish is amazing! Absolute wonder.

Cheers.

Re: Porsche Boxster [Tamiya]

Thanks for the replies

Here's today's progress:

I assembled the suspension and chassis. I didn't pay much attention to this area as it won't be exposed on this quick oob build, however I think I will give it a wash and some dry brush tomorrow.

I started working on head and rear lights too. I just love porsche's head lamps

Now I have the most important and difficult (at least for me) part of this build ahead of me (can't postpone it any longer) - interior

Cheers
Emil

Witchcraft, that's what that is....

Ona a different note - seriously, interior's the trickiest part for you? I'm very much looking forward to it as it's going to be opened.

I know, if executed properly, the interior will be the highlight of the model but... all that masking is pretty intimidating for me - so easy to screw it up + I have to mix paint to match the flocking

OK, I had a couple of hours for modeling today. I managed to do all lights and glass + some smaller details. Mirrors and front glass have certainly improved the appearance of the car - it looked quite narrow and flat without them

That's it for now. Like always, your comments and criticism are welcome

Cheers
Emil

Re: Porsche Boxster [Tamiya]

Ok, I think that's the point where we start expressing ourselves graphically becouse talking has been exploited. So that's how i feel when checking progress in this thread:

One question - did you clear-coat the lights? The shine on them superb.

keep up the good work;D

Where did you find this picture?

And the lights are not polished, only cleaned with a soft cloth. It's just tamiya quality I guess

Re: Porsche Boxster [Tamiya]

Here we go. Final update before gallery
The interior is more-less finished. It still needs adding some small details though. The only major change I made to interior was cutting the molded mesh behind the headrests and replacing it with pe mesh. It was a bit challenging but since the Tamiya part... well left a lot to be desired, it was well worth the effort. Anyway, have a look:
Tamiya part

Modified part

Fitted to the car

Interior was painted dark red (unfortunately it's impossible to photographh the actual color) And flocked with Wine red flocking from Ka Models

It's pretty much all finished but I have to wait till tomorrow to take some dailight outdoor pictures so I'll show you only a teaser tonight

Cheers
Emil
