95 Riviera non supercharged questions on codes

Recently car was put on the computer and it spit out several different codes. I am assuming that not everything that was read needs to be replacedmay be I am wrong! Quad Driver Failure comes up in bold followed by 101 mass air f, 131 o2 censor, 1670 quad driver modular, 626 vets failure ( alarm?) and 171 lean fuel which i guess goes with the o2 code. I need HELP any suggestions would be greatly appriciated. The car is running very rough, idles high even in park, and barley accelerates making a very weird noise and than will level out.

101 is usally a bad maf assuming you didn't change the pcv and leave out a seal, this will affect o2 readings also, do a site search for 1670 plenty of info.

It sounds like you may have a massive down stream air leak (vacuum leak) that is causing unstable idle; however, the quad-driver DTC, could be either the PCM or the solenoid that the quad-driver controls. Quad-drivers are mini-relays inside the PCM that supply a ground to various solenoids/relays. According to your DTC's you have several unrelated problems and may require professional diagnostics. BTW, can you explain the "weird noise" the engine makes under acceleration somewhat better? Does it make a whiny noise, or a whistle noise?

drove the vehicle out of town today big mistake end up stopping at a mech. he puts it on the computer this time and only a misfire in the history. no specifics which he said is typical for obd1. goes further into checking censors and running test while driving the car. his first thought was clogged converter, the car is running so hot and dumping gas into the exust that my one month old mufflers are already changing colors, cat is obviously clogged. runs test on almost all censors maf, mat, o2 etc. the only thing that came up low was the maf he stated its number should be close to engine 3800 I was only at 2. He also tested spark plugs and wires. Spark plugs ok wires were shot according to him sparking from the outside? So $400.00 later just new wires and reccomends new cat convertor. Mine just so happen to be under warrenty so drive back to town car chugging just the same as before to muffler shop. they pop my hood and see that my new wires sitting on my manifold melted. One hour old and melted to manifold. Now this is on top of the car barely driving over 30 in a 65 zone. I think I just needed to vent real quick. Basically my question is the only thing that came up on this extensive test was wires changed but now need to be changed again. And this maf reading only 2 vs. close to 3800. Im not even sure if I should trust this extensive computer reading from someone who would set mywires on my manifold!!!!! The noise he also pointed out whinning from my tranny. Tranny was actually just replaced on my b-day in march along with bracketts and mount $2,000. Please help!!!!!!!!!

Have the cat checked by disconnecting the front pipe from the manifold or doing a back pressure test thru the o2 port, somone who knows what they are doing has to get into this onsite, no other way. Try disconnecting the maf see if it improves.

real simple;
Gently tap that MAF with a screwdriver. If the engine stumbles it is bad. 1995 OBD1 (with the OBD II connector) should read about 7-8 grams per second with a scanner. If that car does not have a massive vacuum leek it should not be at 2. That is the absolute minimum that the sensor will read. it should be about 14-16 ounces (1Lb) per min warmed up at idle..

Hey buddy in my opinion your cat is melted and it caused the comp. to think the maf was messed up becuase like the fellow twice b4 me stated the back pressure and this also causes the cat to be redddd hot which in turn would travel up the engine to the manifold i belive if you replaced the cat all problems would go away but before just going to replace it look at your cat if you havent all ready if its glowing hot red then its the problem the only problem do the leg work check the cat check how much airs coming out of the exaust pipe
