1966 Mustang - Tune Up and Transmission Rebuild
Hi All,
My coworker has a 1966 Mustang that has been sitting around and it needs a tune up as well as a possible transmission rebuild. I have never worked on a Mustang, or classic cars in general, before so I thought I would ask you guys what I should be on the lookout for. By the way the transmission seems to have a delay in shifting and then shifts very hard during acceleration. Thanks in advance for any help and tips.

Tune up involves, points, plugs, wires (if not recently replaced), distributor cap and rotor. You should know how to set points; this is not electronic ignition. And, you need to know how to set the timing - moving the distributor to the correct number of degree BTDC. This is old stuff and if you're under 55, you probably don't have any experience with old points style ignition systems.
A tranny re-build is another story altogether. I am assuming this is an automatic? If you've never done one, don't experiment. Get it professionally rebuilt or find a similar one at the junks that is good. Good luck.....
