Question 96 Roadmaster Reprogram Fob Help?

Hi Guys!
My husband just adopted his grandmother's 96 Roadmaster Wagon. Poor thing had been garaged for years. :-(

In May, the key fob thingy worked, but it worked very poorly. I assumed at the time that the battery in the fob was dying. The car went back into the garage and only just emerged this weekend. The fob no longer works. We changed the batteries, but its still not working. The dealership wants $55 for a new fob and $36 to program it. They say they will test our old fob, and if it works they will program it. I don't want to pay $36 for something I know is simple!

I tried looking through the forum, but I never found any really good instructions I could follow to reprogram it to see if it still functions. There was a link to another forum, but it was dead.

Can ya help a girl out with some instructions for programming the keyless remote for a 1996 Roadmaster Wagon?
Google has failed me. :-(
Thanks guys!

Re: 96 Roadmaster Reprogram Fob Help?

Try this. For your wagon, remove the right back body pillar finish panel to access the connector. Then, use a short piece of wire,( a paper clip will suffice,)connect across the 2 terminals in the connector. You will hear a click as the system locks , then unlocks the doors. Now press any key on your fob, and the system will go through the lock and unlock cycle again roughly 2 more times to confirm the reprogramming.
If you have more than one fob, you must reprogram them all at the same time. To reprogram the second fob simply repeat the procedure of pressing any key on the other fob and listen for the lock / unlock cycle. Before finishing the procedure make sure the fobs are fully functional and have been reprogrammed.
When finished remove wire or paper clip and reinstall the body panel.
