b20 engine questions
Okay so, i have a b20 in my 89 crx, it works very well except for one problem; the short shifter is falling out! so im wondering if anyone else has had this problem? also wondering if anyone could tell me what the problem is: so could it be where the linkage sits on the bottom of the car? or also there is a small gap less than a quarter inch between the bushing on the motor mount and the actual metal piece, could that be the problem?
that is what i think it is because i can get the shifter back up into the car by putting the linkage back in place, but when i drive it or even rev the engine seriously it seems to drop. someone help!!! |

Re: b20 engine questions
Be more specific on your shifter "dropping". Could be bad linkage, bad bushings, or the thing is in a bind.
As for the clutch and reverse, the stage of the clutch should have no effect on whether or not the car will go into a certain gear, that is all internal. Now on reverse, its just a small simple gear with no syncros, and a lot of times, it doesn't line up on the first try. Doesn't matter what kind of vehicle your in, just about all manuals do it. Try just pushing in the clutch and releasing it and trying again. That will usually turn the gears in there just enough for the reverse gear to engage.

and okay... it just grinds when i start it in a neutral and try to put it into reverse.. it just wont go. but if i shift to it start , let of clutch give gas it goes fine. |

Re: b20 engine questions
Still doesn't help much. Is it the shifter itself that is just falling, or the whole linkage? If its just the shifter, check the plate that holds it.
As I said, reverse doesn't always line up correctly. Try to just put the car in neutral, press in the clutch, release the clutch and try it again.

Re: b20 engine questions
thanks man... fixed it all today! it was the whole linkage falling out from the bottom of the car, along with the shifter, not piece attached to engine though
