AWD DET ??'s

I have a question. I searched, but couldnt find the right answer. I have found a AWD DET for sale. The prices seem pretty good. Would the AWD DET be compatible with our tranny, or my car at all? I know the AWD motor sits like the FWD motor. But I dont know how much different it is.

Thanks

There is no such thing as a FWD SR20DET. They are only available as RWD and AWD. We use AWD DETs from either the Sunny/Pulsar GTi-R or the Bluebird SSS.

There was a FWD Bluebird SSS offered in Oz, but it did not come with the SR20DET.

So, yes, you will need to buy an AWD SR20DET. It will bolt up to our gearboxes. There are two bolt holes that do not line up. It's OK. One is redundant on the USDM gearbox and the other is a small diameter bolt between the gearbox and the upper oil pan. No big deal.

You will also find the bearing support for the passenger halfshaft only uses 2 of 3 bolt holes. One hole hangs in the air. No big deal.

Yep. Almost all of them are automatics too.

Hey how about this?...why not convert yer g20 to AWD? I don't think any fabrication would need to be done...just all the right parts, lots of money, lots of know how, and lots of money? hubs, driveshafts, rear diff, tranny, control arms.....this would be sweet. I wonder if i peeked under my g20 if i would see rear diff mounts longing for a rear diff...

Converting to AWD would require a lot of work (cutting, welding, etc..) and a ton of money

...enough to leave a 50% deposit on a 2002 G20 sport

For one... the whole floor pan of you car would need modification. There is currently no tunnel for a drive shaft to spin whatever rear axles you're planning on fitting. You would also have to cut and weld your gas tank.

Not sure how you would plan to spin the rear axles anyway. There was an AWD P10 but the whole rear suspension is different from the P11 (hmm.. actually you never stated wether this was for a P11 or P10) If this is for a P11, you'd need to fabricate a lot of pieces in the suspension and drive axle area.

I wont even get into your interior (floor pan mods will effect it)

Search on ebay - sr20det you'll find a COMPELTE AWD engine/tranny/diff/suspension - was at 2k in cleavland ohio (near me!!!!) hehehehe
If I had an NX with a blown motor - more time - and more money - I'd seriously consider it! hehehe

Seriously though this is EVERYTHING you'd need.....

Sorry about not specifying...i'll be picking up my 93 g20 from the dealer sometime this week. It feels good to finally be a member of a car board where i actually own the car.
