94 Tempo and 88 E150

I have two Fords, a 4-cylinder 94 Tempo and an 88 E150 with a 4.9 6-cylinder that are both having the same problem. The first time you start either car it will die out, but on the second try it will always start just fine and run. What could be the cause of this? Thanks.
