97 trouble starting

im having trouble starting my 97 lesabre. it will crank and sometimes start to turn over, with starter fluid, but will quickly putter out and stall out. ive checked the battery connection which are good. ive checked the fuel rail, which is pressurized.

any suggestions on how to trouble shoot this?

i dont have a lot of money to bring it to a shop for them to hook it up to a computer and see if anythings wrong in the way of that. or is that pretty much my only option at this point?

Re: 97 trouble starting

same thing happened to me when a month after I bought my 97 lesabre used.
it could be a number of things
1 fuel pump, put your head near the gas neck hose see if you can hear the fuel pump engaging, if you hear it thats not it
2. starter
3.dead or weak battery

got to get it to a shop, tow it and find out what is wrong, that's what I had to do

i checked the battery. and its putting out the 12A.

ive checkede the fuel rail cap just before the injectors and its pressurized every time i try and start it.

and as for the starter. im not too keen on what that would sound like. or the symtoms

Re: 97 trouble starting

Sounds like you have a good battery, fuel to the cylinders, it cranks good, but you have no spark. I would first try to read the codes to see if there is a particular code that would pinpoint the problem. If there is a code, you may be able to figure it out fairly easily.

Have someone crank it over, pull a plug wire, and look for a spark between the boot and the plug. If there is definitely no spark, look at things like the ignition control module and the cam and crank position sensors. One of these sensors, I believe it is the crank position sensor, will result in a no start situation. Check for codes first though, because without a code, it will be much more difficult to figure out the culprit.

Take the car to one of the 'National Part' stores and have them read the DTC's fo you at no charge, no need to pay anyone for this service!
