Two Primary Issues

Okay, I have a 1994 Buick Century 3.1L V6 with 4 speed auto w/ OD

Problem 1: I was traveling through W Virginia on I-77 traveling about 70 - 80 mi/hr (using cruise control) and some "person" suddenly stopped, no one around and no tolls/exits for miles. I had to brake EXTREMELY hard to avoid a collision after I accelerated again I noticed that my cruise control was not working, I went to the next exit pulled into a parking lot and restarted my car, I went back onto the the interstate but my Cruise control would not engage, later that night I pulled into a restaurant noticing that my high mount lights were remaining on... I had to pull the bulbs to keep the battery from dying. About a month later I had the electrical wiring (brake area) worked on, it fixed my auto start and high mount but not my cruise control.

Problem 2: Acceleration tends to be slower (or rough) in gears 1 - 2 on some occasions but other times the car will drive normally

The car currently has about 101000 miles on it.

Any help?

Re: Two Primary Issues

If that was my vehicle I would leave it.
I have never liked cruise control.

Re: Two Primary Issues

on the cruise issue, your car was a changeover year, so it had two designs of cruise release switch.

On one design, there are two switches on your brake pedal. One turns the brake lights on, the other releases the cruise control and the transmission torque converter lock-up.

On the other design, there is only one switch with two separate circuits, one for the brake lights, and one for the cruise release.

When you stomped the brake pedal, you could have knocked the cruise release switch out of adjustment or it may have become unplugged.

I had that looked at, it was the two separate switch type, I had it looked at, but the mechanic said that he realigned the switches...

I have to get a oil change soon anyways, I will have to have it looked at again.

Sorry for the Double Post, but I liked Cruise Control (It could be engaged from 25 mi/hr) I liked it whenever there were "ticket-happy" cops watching the roads...I could go posted and never got a ticket. (Except in town, it's illegal)

The only car I had with cruise control, the cruise control would be on when I wasn't aware it was.
Having the gas pedal go down on it's own made me feel like my car was possessed!
I would rather have control over the speed of my vehicle.
