P0113 DTC Grand Prix vs Mouse

Hello Gentleman,

2002 Grand Prix SE.

Replaced the LIM Gaskets a week ago and has been running fine.

Tonight I took apart the air box assembly and found a large mouse nest near the PCM connectors. Little guy had the most ellaborate next I've ever seen. He even had a wealth of dog food stocked up for a long winter.

Well, I hated to be a jerk, but his home had to go. I cleaned it all up and put it backtogether. GF and I then took her car for a trip for about 10 miles. Just as we were slowing down coming into town the SES light came on.

It came back as a P0113 - IAT sensor high voltage.

Plugged my powertuner in and the sensor (even in 90 degree weather) was reading -39 degrees.

It was dark so I did just a couple quick checks with my multimeter
1) IAT sensor was firmly in place and plugged in (it was)
2) checked for proper PCM ground at the sensor plug (looked good)
3) checked for sensor 5v B+ with Key on engine Off (no voltage)

Is it safe to assume that I disturbed something the little rodent started?

It was too dark to pull the PCM and check the connections tonight, so for the time being I just cleared the code and will look into it a little more tomorrow.

Any Insight?

By the way I have yet to locate the little mouse. I suppose he did this to get back at me for destroying his nest above the coil packs during the cold months. I'm just greatfull its for the simple IAT and not a CPS or ICM wire.

Thanks Guys!

I would say your assumption is correct Tim. While making the nest, the mouse probably chewed through a wire.

Re: P0113 DTC Grand Prix vs Mouse

All Fixed, Just a follow up.

I pulled the PCM out and ohm checked between the IAT plug and term 50 of the grey PCM connector. it showed infinite resistance (open). So i tracked down the wire to just past the PCM airbox so a spot where the electrical tape had been chewed away. I found a few wires that had been nibbled on, but the tan IAT 5v reference wire was knawed in half.

Needless to say I soldered the halves back together, put shrink tubing over the top, and wrapped about 8 layers of electrical tape over the top of all the suspected wires.

Once done I vacummed and sprayed out the PCM's compartment of all signs of my little stow-away buddy. Then I put it all backtogether, hooked the battery up and checked for voltage and ground at the IAT plug. Looked good, and no more SES light!

Thanks Rich!

Next time put one of those mouse wheels on your S/C'er pulley and put that mouse to work if he's going to shack up there!

Nothing beats a hard hitting good old fashioned mouse trap.

Got these two at one of our worksites.

Re: P0113 DTC Grand Prix vs Mouse

haha Nice! Little rodents!

How is the GXP Bob? Did you guys trade in a vehicle or just buy it?

I like the one I drove, funny thing though is that it didnt have an auto-dim mirror. I inquired about it, and the dealer didnt know if it was even an option anymore.

Now that I have one I am sort of spoiled.

Re: P0113 DTC Grand Prix vs Mouse

Rodents can be a big nuisance. The concern we had was them chewing on our computer and system cabling which includes fiber-optic. That weird part you see in the pics on each mouse is where the bodies were decomposing since the traps were set over a weekend. Plus we caught 3 more for a total of 5.

Tim, no trade-in. Still have the GTP, Regal GS, Regal LS and Alero. I believe there is no auto dimming mirror option anymore but the GXP I have has everything offered including the newer designed CJ2 ACC which works better than on previous generation Grand Prix climate control systems. BTW - The mirror does have the On-Star controls.

Re: P0113 DTC Grand Prix vs Mouse

I am so jealous Bob!

I would like to buy another vehicle to just have in case I take the GTP apart to mod then I'll have another DD to use. Problem is we have no where to put another vehicle.

Looking for a house right now.... with at least a 3 car garage!
