Strange brake problems
Hello, I normally don't do this but we have a 1999 1 ton Chevy Truck at work and it has a weird brake problem. It's the brake lights. Most of the time when you push the brake pedal down, the brake lights stay on. We checked the switch on the pedal and its not that. It did lead us into a module which we figured was faulty. When we took it back to a local dealer, they replaced this module and the lights are still staying on, but not everytime you use the truck either. Its an intermittent thing.
We were pulling a relay out everytime we used the truck and that was making the brake lights go out. Then we discovered the if you turn the right blinker on it would also clear the brake lights as well. Anyone here ever heard of anything like this?? I would assume its a short somewhere that we may never find. Thanks, Toni. |

Re: Strange brake problems
Well we have tried that also. There are other relays underneath the cover that are the same as the brake one.........didn't seem to help.

Re: Strange brake problems
When this happens unplug the connector at the steering column for the signal switch see what happens.

Re: Strange brake problems
Most of these wires lead in into the module that was replaced by the dealership.
There was another weird one that happened, the blinker was causing the "middle" brake light to flash as well. It's got to be a ground problem backfeeding through somewhere, causing the relay to stay closed. Hopefully the dealer will find it. I'll post back with their results. Toni. |

Re: Strange brake problems
Well I did hear today that the dealership found a wire pinched in one of the fenders which I guess was causing our light problems. It also promptly took out the module again as well. They are going to go good for the module, however we will need to cover the labor costs. If I get anything more, I'll post back. I kind of figured it was related to something being grounded that wasn't supposed to be.
