Need Help!!

Hi all, I could really use some advice on my current situation. I'm being torn from both sides and can't make a decision. This might be a little lengthy but I could really use and would greatly appreciate some help.

I'm 19 and my first car (1989 Ford Tempo, it was cheap ok lol) recently broke down and I'm left without a car and desperately need one soon for work. My dad has found a car for me in Kansas City, and one of my best friends is selling his current car to upgrade.

My dad found a 1986 Toyota Camry. It in excellent condition. It hasn't been in any accidents, no structural damage, no rust, etc. It has only 115k miles on it. Brand new tires with a complete extra set included in the price. The AC and heater both work. Parts on the engine have been replaced so its fairly new and current. The asking price is $2000.

My friend has a 2000 Ford Taurus. It has a little bit of hail damage due to a storm a couple years ago (which I'm not really worried about that appearance aspect because it's not that noticeable). Also, he slid and hit a curb two winters ago which slightly bent the car frame causing it to pull to the right a little bit. He got it re-aligned but about a month ago he ran over a curb due to ice again, so that didn't help. But he replaced the front tires and got it re-aligned again, but obviously it can't be totally fixed. Other than that he has taken very good care of the car and everything else works great. His asking price is $2100-2200.

Right now I'm trying to just get a car that will last me at least till I get out of college, so 3-4 years-ish. I can really only afford a car around $2500 at the moment, and money plays a big factor (as I'm sure it does for everyone) as far as insurance. I don't really want a car older than I am, but it seems to be in decent shape, I just don't know if it will hold up, or how easy it would be to find replacement parts. I prefer the newer Taurus. However, I don't know to what extent the damage to the frame will hurt the overall of the car (tires, etc.). If anyone can help me out with this I would greatly, greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Re: Need Help!!

I wouldn't even consider the Taurus with the frame damage issue. Can you have a mechanic check out the Camry before you buy it? Also, they are asking too much for the Camry. When was the timing belt replaced on the Camry? If it hasn't been be sure and factor the cost of replacing it into your decision.

You can also go to Google and search for 1986 Toyota Camry Craigslist and get some ideas of other similar cars condition and prices.

Need Help!!
I would go with the Toyota or something similar! They tend to be more reliable when the mileage gets up there if they have been well maintained.

I am sure if you check around you can find something reliable in your price range if you are patient. If you need a vehicle history report done on a vehicle before you purchase it let me know. It won't cost you a thing.

any questions let me know how I can help.
