91 Crown Vic Battery Light
Today on the way home the battery light came on and then went out just as fast. After it went out it did not come back on. Just wondering if there is something that we might need to keep our eyes out for. It's a V8 302 with approximatemly 250,000 miles on it. Replaced the battery a month ago. Replaced the alternator in 11/06 with a j/y alt. Had issues in early '06 with starting, problem was IAC, replaced it and no problems since. Thanks.

Re: 91 Crown Vic Battery Light
Sometimes when a diode is bad they will charge enough to keep you going but a large load at idle they won't keep up with demand.
Advanced Auto and Auto Zone will check the charging system for free. |

Re: 91 Crown Vic Battery Light
To add to rhandwor's post----did the light come on under acceleration? If it did, it is possible the belt was slipping causing the light to come on.

Re: 91 Crown Vic Battery Light
It came on when we went across a dip in the road. I'm actually surprised that the alt has lasted as long as it has. Definitely got the $35 worth out of it. We have a Advance Auto close by so probably will have them check it next time in.
