off-road eclipses

An interesting concept I've thought of for years, but have lacked the funds for, was to take a used eclipse AWD model, and modify it with a suspension lift and knobby tires. I thought it would be extremely fun to have a nimble, light-weight car, and modify it to go off-roading. It wouldn't have to climb rocks, but if it could make it through a swamp, that would be fantastic.

Has anyone ever heard of something like this being done?

Is there any web-sites around that show pictures of a vehicle that has been modified like this? I've seen old 60's mustangs jacked up and retrofitted to 4wd, so I know anything is possible.
