someone sell me! ...tax return = clutch time...

ok, i have been searching around, and doing my research... i have it narrowed down to 2 for the most part, but def. open to other suggestions. i do have plans beyond the 16g, so before anyone gets a chance to say anything, "No, I'm not wasting my money! i know that's more clutch the then a 16g could even need." now that that's out of the way, i'm torn between the ACT 2600 w/ 6-puck, or the Fidanza 4.3 (also 6-puck)

if anyone has any information regarding either of these clutches, please post it up for me, and im sure, many others will benefit from the info sooner or later so be as descriptive and factual as possible.

here are links to the 2 kits...

Act 2600 w/ 6 puck

Fidanza 4.3

also, found the act clutch to be cheapest from extremepsi, and the Fidanza cheapest at maperformance, if anyone found it cheaper please let me know before i purchase either of these clutches. thanks. oh, and as for flywheels, im going to resurface the OEM flywheel... that way i dont waste money on a lightened FWD flywheel.... not meaning to give away the big plans or anything let me know your thoughts on these too clutches. thanks.

Re: someone sell me! ...tax return = clutch time...

I have a fidanza 3.2 in my spyder. Its works great, i cant say anything bad about it. But Im about to put my new tranny and stuff in my gst hardtop and Im going to go with the ACT 6 puck in that car. Like I said I cant say anything bad about fidanza because mine performs well, but based on reviews from DSMtuners, it seems that many people dont get a whole lot of mileage from them. But thats just what other people say, so you can take that anyway you want. But I have 5k miles on mine and it still performs well.

But I just want to try something different and I have not heard many bad things at all about ACT (except for the TOB's), so thats whay Im going to try the ACT in my hardtop gst.

Hmm... yeah, i have been all over the threads on tuners... i think the majority of the issues where the springs, or the friction surfaces on the PP side... which can all be solved with proper adjustment in my eyes... but im not about to post on tuners with my history on their... i think i have maybe 70 posts... i don't really spend a lot of time posting their... but Tuners for sure a main source of information, as well as reading material.

VG, im curious as to, with your positive impression from Fidanza, why you would spend MORE money to get an ACT clutch rather then another Fidanza?

Both of those clutches will probably be fine for you. Just know that the ceramic disc will eat your pressure plate and flywheel in a short period of time. Depending on your driving it may have to be replaced in as little as 1-2 years. The ceramic is really aggressive, it is just like brake pads on your rotors. But at this point you dont really have a choice. Anything less isint going to hold the power

I can get either one for about the same price.

Re: someone sell me! ...tax return = clutch time...

still not sold, im thinking the Fidanza would be best as of right now due to the 2200 lb pressure plate as opposed to the 2600lb pressure plate from act. keep in mind 7-bolt... i want to avoid the overrated, and timeless issue of C/W... but at the same time, i'm not going to keep my tail between my legs, if she walks, well... she walks... i like to consider my driving as relaxed from day to day... but the car will see the track, strip as well as road course...

I have read a few horror stories about the fidanza, as well as the act... only difference i see is fidanza stands behind their products and 9 out of 10 will replace the clutch kit (PP, disk, and Flywheel surface *if you purchase the flywheel*) i guess... i just need someone to push me farther to one side... because as of now, i could see either one being a great choice... \

you mean the whole clutch kit? pressure plate, disk, and flywheel? i couldn't re-use the PP after a ceramic disk? what about the act? could i reuse the PP if i go with the act 6-puck disk? i want to keep the yearly replacement costs as low as possible...

i wish i could figure out how to open a poll for this thread (tried when making the first post... i just cant seem to find it anymore)... so i can take votes... *if a mod could throw up a poll, including the ACT 2600 6-puck and the Fidanza 4.3 6-puck it would be much appreciated*

You will more than likely have to replace everything in 2 years. The good thing about the fidanza flyhweel is the replaceable wear ring. So you can just buy that instead of a whole new flywheel. Will help cut cost some. All of this depends on your driving style. The harder you drive the car the more faster its going to wear the clutch.

Re: someone sell me! ...tax return = clutch time...

My clutch is starting to give up the ghost at 25+psi so I'm in the market as well.

My research has led me to either a 2600 with an unsprung 6 puck, a 2600PP with a SouthBend disk, or just going twin disk and being done with it.

I'll never run a sprung 6 puck from all the horror stories I've read.

Re: someone sell me! ...tax return = clutch time...

Not sure if anyone is still in the market for a clutch or not but, I am. I found these two great packages and thought I would share them with you guys in case you were still looking.

http://www.extremepsi.com/store/cust...cat=458&page=1

http://www.extremepsi.com/store/cust...cat=458&page=1

Both come with the ACT MaXX Xtreme (2900) Clutch. One has the ACT flywheel and the other has the Fidanza flywheel. I know its not a 6 puck clutch but, if I'm not mistaken this street disk holds up to 490 ft/lbs of torque. I figure the street disk would be more practical for cruising but, also holds enough toque for some good runs. I believe this is the clutch that comes with both kits: http://www.extremepsi.com/store/cust...1&veh=2G%20DSM

What do you guys think?

Re: someone sell me! ...tax return = clutch time...

Im going to order me up a clutch friday....Im torn also. Im needing one for my GST. I want something that will hold atleast 350hp. Something that will last a decent amount of time, and I dont want a terribly heavy pressure plate (not because Im a puss, but because the car is a 7 bolt). But I when I press on it, I do want to know its there, and be confident in it. Wanting to try an ACT this time....just not sure which combo...so many choices. Oh and around 350 buckies.
