Live Action Akira

So its been confirmed there will be a live action Akira.... Katsuhiro Otomo agreed to the idea. Its going to made by Warner Brothers for 2009. Anyone got any ideas about this one. I'm thinking it will have to be rated R for obvious reasons.... or will they tone it down for all the obsessed teenagers to see it? I hope they keep it true!

Re: Live Action Akira

WHAT !?!!???

You mean as in motion picture ??

This will be interesting to see how this plays out.

The anime version is rated R, it would ruin the whole idea to downgrade it to PG-13

Any links for that Warner Bro's ??

Re: Live Action Akira

According to IGN:
UK, February 21, 2008 - Warner Bros. are ploughing ahead with their adaptation of the Akira graphic novels, with two live-action feature films now in production.

According to Variety, each movie will be based on three of the books in legendary artist Katsuhiro Otomo's six-volume series that revolves around bikers and psychics in post-apocalyptic, dystopian Tokyo.

As IGN reported last year, Irish helmer Ruairi Robinson is set to make his feature debut with the first film, which WB execs have pencilled in for a summer 2009 release. Gary Whitta is writing the script.

Interestingly, Leonardo Di Caprio's production company Appian Way is also onboard – although as far as we know the star won't be involved as an actor.

I'm sure more as we get closer, more stuff will come out..... I seriously can not wait!

Re: Live Action Akira

I can, adaptations tend to be so weak as of late and leave out so much plot. DBZ is confirmed as well with actors.

Re: Live Action Akira

Hmmm, two films based off the manga as opposed to a remake of the film.

Should be interesting. I'd watch it just to see Kaneda's bike in live action

Re: Live Action Akira

Last I heard though, Leonardo and company were changing the city to New York and making some other "small" changes to it.

Re: Live Action Akira

Well from the IGN link , it sounds like its going to happen, its just a matter of time before they get the ball rolling and shoot then damn thing.

Nothing I love more then bikes, its psychics on bikes.
Hum... I wonder who'll play Kaneda ..
I cant wait to see the design for thier bikes! Thiers been several attempts in making these in the last 10 years, some look realy sweat!
I had a link to a japanese site that a guy was building Kanedas bike but I cant seem to find it.

Good designs..

Bad design... moped mod.

Re: Live Action Akira

Sounds like an interesting idea but until I see some hard pics or trailers I'll reserve judgment. Its pretty graphic intensive so I hope they do it right. Keep us updated!

Re: Live Action Akira

I'm anticipating to watch this movie. I hope that they won't make major changes from the original one.

This can either be amazing or horrible, I am eagerly anticipating a trailer for this film.
