Hmm... Damper or No Damper?

I'm changing the axles on my car...

The new one I got for the passenger side does not have the damper on it that the old one has.

I don't have my own press and would have to get a machine shop to pop the ends off of the axles so I could swap the damper. I hate paying for stuff like that!

I am more tempted to just stick it in there as is.

Any thoughts about the difference that little damper will make? It is so tiny... I wonder if I will even notice a dif.

The same thing happened to me. Don't know why it was on there. New one-no damper. Don't miss it.

I was worried about road noise... maybe it does something for vibration?

Has yours been that way for awhile? No difference at all?

If you are talking about what I think you are mine broke off on the right side. Never made any difference. My left side I replaced and now that you've mentioned it I don't think it has one.

No difference. I can't tell any difference. It's been about 20k miles since I did it. Maybe there was a vibration problem when the cars were new, but with thousands of miles on tranny and other components it is no longer needed.

Re: Hmm... Damper or No Damper?

Cool... road noise was my main concern. i woulda been ticked to put it all together and just have to take it back apart again for some dumb little rubber piece.

AZ... yes, it was only the passenger side. Driver side does not have one. The passenger side is longer, so there must have been some issue with it creating vibration or road noise.

Maybe Ford was just keeping the damper people in business

Mine appears to have dry rotted.

When I replaced mine no damper either. Makes it easier to install without it getting in the way. I don't miss it.
