need advice on what to do... 2001 sc2
I was looking at geting a used 2001 sc2.... I went to this used car dealership and asked a few questions about it and i just want some others advice on should i get it or not? I kinda was looking at geting something that gets good gas milage.
It's got just under 140k. Is that good for these cars and the motor go more or will i just be throwing my money away. It has, Alloy Wheels, AM/FM, Anti-Lock Brakes, Bucket Seats, CD, Cruise Control, Driver Airbag, Passenger Airbag, Power Steering, Sun Roof, Tilt Wheel. Also has a 5 speed tranny. Then all the basic stuff. I didn't test drive it because they didn't have the correct plates to put on the car or some bs.... but he said that they would have them tommarow so thats what ill do. And then give you an update. Also the people that do have these cars are they good to drive or do they suck! And his asking price is 2,875. Good deal or not thanks. |

I don't know if that vehicle is a 4 cyl or v6. I personally wouldn't want to buy a vehicle with that many miles on it unless it's a 4 cyl because easier to work on and especially change the motor out if necessary. I've owned some other vehicles front wheel drive v6 that has had some miles and things start going bad it's hard to get to anything to work on it. Also not to mention better gas mileage.

Re: need advice on what to do... 2001 sc2
the s-series are 4 cyl. 140k is considered an upper teenage in the s-series world. If the engine had been taken care off and you keep care of it expect it to to last well over 250k.
Test drive the car. Make sure everything works. The price is not bad at all....actually quite low compared to NY prices. Thats a fully loaded SC2, doesnt get any better than that other than leather seats. For the DOHC engine, expect anywhere from 32-34 mpg. If you get a set of Michelin Radial x tires, you can see 34-35 consistently especially with a 5 spd. As you can see by my signature...i like the s-series

I work for a used car dealer and them not having demo plates sounds weird to me. Unless they just started selling cars yesterday.

Glad someone caught that I missed that. That is when its time to say, "See ya, I'm gonna go to some place that might actually want to sell me a car." And say "What a joke" as walking back to your car.

RC you're over exaggerating aren't you. I wouldn't call it teenage. Well I guess... lol. It's at break-in.
Over all gist of things. 140K means it's still a baby. It has a long long way to go if you properly maintain it. Always check the oil and keep up with fresh oil changes and you'll be just fine. The price seems a little high, but it is a 2001. I guess to a person who knows the technology of that car has not changed much in ten years would know that. So to me it seems over priced. Look at it from their perspective. It's 8 years old. Now from mine... regardless of body age to me it's still like my 93. lol. Saturns take care of you just as well as you take care of them. Though they can spoil you, do not let the oil get out of hand. There are awful consequences if you do.
