1/12th Tamiya Renault RE 20 WIP
Hey everyone, although I have the Pocher F40 WIP going, I joined the '09 Group Build on another forum and the subject I chose was the RE 20. This will be a full-on build, not a throw it together job, so I thought I should devote a WIP thread to it, separate from the F40 WIP. No sense in hijacking my own WIP, right? Anyway, it's early-on in the build and I am still aquiring all of the necessary bits and pieces, but I did post a couple of pics on the F40 WIP, but I'll duplicate them here, so this WIP is a complete work. For all who didn't see them, here are the wheels I turned up. The fronts need milled and smoothed and polished, the rears are still slugs and only rough turned so far. There are a couple of pics of the first rear I turned, but it is dimesionally incorrect, so it's junk. I showed it next to the kit wheel for comparison and with the kit center pressed in for effect.

Re: 1/12th Tamiya Renault RE 20 WIP
This is the kind of stuff that keeps me coming back here. Look at that machining. I love it! Now if you could show a step by step with those babies chucked up in the lathe, I'd be really happy!
Great start.......I'll be watching for sure. Clay

Re: 1/12th Tamiya Renault RE 20 WIP
Okay, got the wheels pretty much done on the lathe, still have to mill the bead locks, air valves and bolt holes and then they're done! Clay had asked for some shots of the wheels chucked in the lathe, so here ya go...
Here I am boring the deep dish diameter to the back of the rim half... ![]() Now I am setting up and turning the angle of the steps in the rim face to match the fronts... ![]() ![]() Here I am breaking bits and ruining hours of work in a millisecond ![]() ![]() ... ouch!!!![]() ![]() And here are some shots of the 2 fronts and 1 remaining rear... I'll have to make another rear this week... yuk!!! ![]() ![]() Thanks for looking/laughing at my mistake...lol ![]() ![]() ![]() BM1 |

Re: 1/12th Tamiya Renault RE 20 WIP
Hey everybody, sorry no posts, but as most have read, I got crunched a week ago and have not felt much like building. I am back in the workshop tonight, though, so I thought I'd post a few pics of my dead BMW. Although I feel fine now, the car is a total loss, so I have been scrambling to secure a replacement. Nothing yet, but my expectations are high.
All of the photos are after I had pulled everything of value off of the car, like the wheels and tires and the sport springs, etc. I believe it is going to the salvage yard tomorrow, so I will say farewell ...![]() ![]() Even buckled the roof... ![]() ...and cracked the oil pan... the black trail of death... ![]() Thankfully neither myself, nor the woman who turned left in front of me, was injured. Her 05 Ford Escape was also totaled. Great way to start the week... BM1 |
