Re: location of nok sensor on sho

Quoting our favorite moderator,"why do you ask?" Really, I'm surprised he hasn't piped up on this as he is a former SHO owner.

I found a picture on my Ford TSP that shows on a 94 3.0/3.2 SHO the knock sensor is screwed into what appears to be the top of the block and next to a coolant line that also goes into the block between the two heads. From Ford, "the knock sensor is located under the intake manifold and fuel injection supply manifolds (9D280). When installing, tighten to 29-39 N-m (21-29 lb-ft).

The sensor screws into the cooling system of the block, so if you want to remove it, you may need to drain some of the coolant and then put teflon tape or paste on the sensor when you replace/return it.

Re: location of nok sensor on sho

Lots of busy, late nights this week....

I will admit, I'm curious why one would suspect a faulty knock sensor. The only time I've seen a bad one was my sister in-law's Subaru, and that's a pretty common issue for the Subarus from what I read.

Usually the knock sensor will just be installed in a rigid portion of the block or head, I doubt it's in a coolant passage. Plus, the removal steps in the FSM/TSP make no mention that I see of needing to drain the coolant.

If you can look under the intake maniflod, almost dead center, there is a wirinc connector going into the block. This is the knock sensor. It is not screwed into the coolant passage so no liquid will be lost. I agree with Rod. I have been working on Fords almost exclusively since 1984 and have only seen 1 knock sensor replaced in our shop.
