Car wont start
Ok i have a 1995 buick riviera. I recently have been having problems with it starting. When I turn the ignition key I hear a click noise. Its not constant however. Its one click and thats it. So im not sure if its the starter or just a bad connection somewhere. The lights raido etc stay on, so the battery is still good. I have had starter probelms before on other cars but it would be a constant clicking sound where as this is just one click o n matter how long i i keep the ignition key turned. Any idea what it is?

Re: Car wont start
Starting with the simple first:
How old is the battery ? Are the battery posts and cable terminals clean ? Attach one end of a test light to the solenoid wire, small wire, on the starter and ground the other end to a good ground. Turn the ignition switch to the "Start" position. If the test light illuminates then the starter is history. If it does not illuminate go back and test the "Yellow" wire at the "Park/Neutral" switch on the transsmission. Just some suggestions |

Re: Car wont start
The battery is maybe a year or 2 old. Its a very cheap walmart one but it cranks the car fine unless the weather gets too cold. I have fresh terminals on it but the battery posts are oxidated. It started up today when I tried it but when i shut it off it did the same thing again. Tried a few more times and eventually it started. I will test the starter and see what happens, hopefully its not too hard to get to it. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Car wont start
i havent exactly figured it out but i asked around and 5/6 mechanics i asked said the selonoid on the starter was faulty. They told me to first check the cables on the starter as they may be loose, if they arent loose then it is the selonoid, so you are better off getting a new starter if it is.

Re: Car wont start
I remember having a starter problem on my '77 Dodge Diplomat and someone showed me how to use a screwdriver in or near the starter to get it going.

Re: Car wont start
I just had to let you know that after my car sat since Dec. and going to a shop that just shook there heads and sent it back, the problem was the security system.I looked on the web and found a way to bypass it..A trip to radio shack and $3.00 later MY CAR STARTED!!! And if a 54 year old woman can do it anybody can.It was sssoooo simple.Look up VATS bypass on the web.
