Wtf Tranny Dipstick Is Bent

My kid tells me last night her 94civic dx sedan would not go into reverse.
She hears a loud clunk and it goes in.

I take it out for a ride and it seems fine.

This AM when it's light out I go out to check the auto tranny fluid and the dipstick is bent!!!
Here is a pic

Car drives fine but how could this happen? Is a new tranny in my future?

FWIW I had the tranny fluid changed about 4 months ago at my local mechanic.

i dont think a new tranny is in your future, but instead of stickin the dipstick in, just make a cap for it, so that way you dont have any other problems. it shouldnt really hurt the car all that much, just make sure she isnt slamming the car into drive while she is still in the process of going backwards....

WOW! i thought i was the only one. well, i got one up on ya bro. mine was sheared off at the end. i have everything disconnected from the tranny but i was wondering if there was a way to maybe use a magnet to get it out? does the dipstick home go all the way to the bottom or will the piece fall into a slot or pit? or will i have to pull the tranny?

That's why the engine should be shut off when checking trans fluid on a Honda. Also if the dip stick has a loose fit it can move around while the car is being driven.

Re: Wtf Tranny Dipstick Is Bent

wasnt checking the level. i know to warm it up and go through the gears and shut it off before checking. i was actually backing into my driveway. i shifted into reverse and it did not engage so i ever so slightly tapped on the gas to get it to kick in and thats when the bang happened. it backed in the driveway fine but now i have foreign contaminant in the tranny case which im trying to retrieve. but thanx for your timely response.

Re: Wtf Tranny Dipstick Is Bent

im not sure how a tranny dipstick that far bent could even fit down the tube. but anyhow, having the dipstick bent like that will give you a false reading on the level of the trans fluid. you may have too much fluid in the trans.
