93 Saturn SC2 High "Idle"

So I took time today to do spring cleaning basically. Replaced front rotors/pads/high pressure lines as well as changing the oil and cleaning the throttlebody as previously recommended for the check engine light.

Put it all back together afterwards and now when started it goes straight up to 4,000-4,500 rpm's and acts like its bouncing off the limiter. I used true throttlebody cleaner for the cleaning and also sprayed out the IAC keeping the spring and nose down while letting it dry.

Am I to assume its a bad IAC and leave it there or is there something else it could be as well.

Are you sure your throttle cable isn't bound up somewhere? I don't think the IAC passage is large enough to allow 4500 RPM's.

That was the first thing I checked. But the cable is fine, nothing frayed and moves freely. As well the throttlebody is at rest in proper spot, and when you move the cable it works properly. No signs of anything binding or it not being right.

Did you move the position of the IAC?

Did you re-place the gasket on correctly?

You have a vacuum leak somewhere.

Don't think I moved the IAC at all, but it was EXTREMELY filthy hence why it was cleaned. only thing vacuum related would possibly be the three lines, but I barely disturbed those to remove it.. Will recheck the gasket, replaced with new and it all seemed to mount tight. Stay tuned as this will be ongoing at this point.

Re: 93 Saturn SC2 High "Idle"

OK, found the TB gasket had slipped. Got it back in place and car now idles normal. Still have a check engine light for codes 22 and 43. So I will worry about those another day unless they effect gas mileage or there is an easy fix for. To answer the other question before its posed, I did pull both sensors before the cleaning. Not to mention I opened the three pintles from the top of the throttlebody again.
