motorcycle insurance??

i dunno whether i should post this here or in the motorcycle section

i'm slowly realizing that gas is a killer for me, even when i drive a honda. I have seriously started looking at motorcycles. I know that the most expensive part is the insurance, especially for me being 24 (only 11 more months ).

I was wondering who everyone, who owns a motorcycle, has insurance with? and if you wouldn't mind saying how much your payments are and what kind of coverage you have. It would very grateful.

thanks for the help.

Re: motorcycle insurance??

Since there's been no response in the Insurance section, moving to OT per our discussion. Apologies for not having any info on motorcycles for you.

Hopefully some cycle folks can comment.

Re: motorcycle insurance??

I would call around. I honestly don't think motorcycle insurance is that high. Call Geico and some of the others - I am sure they would be willing to give you a general quote.

Re: motorcycle insurance??

actually motorcycle insurance is very high...they are easier to be stolen, more susceptible to speeding tickets, and many more accidents...especially if you get a super sport..ive seenas much as 4300 a year.

Wow - where do you live? I just got off the phone with my agent (State Farm) and she said, for a 2006 Honda Rebel, full coverage with $100 deductable it would be $220 a year.

I guess it depends on the type of bike and where you are. Like I mentioned in my previous post, check your local insurance agencies. Most of them would be happy to give you a quote.

well yea..i mean a rebel is like a 250cc AND its a cruiser..so youve got it good in both worlds...but if its above 600cc AND considered a sport bike? you bank account is done! if its less than 5 or 6 years old

Re: motorcycle insurance??

When I was getting quotes, full coverage was like 10 times as much as liability. Keep in mind that you are going to need full coverage if you are planning on taking out a loan for your ride. I think.

Re: motorcycle insurance??

I pay 400 for the year for my honda. Its a 2007 honda 919 which insurance considers an unfaired sport bike. It was my first bike and I didn't have the motorcycle safety course under my belt. I could probly get it down a bit seeing as I've had it for well over a year and have since turned 25 as well.

Oh I use geico, forgot about that.

Edit: thats for liability, full coverage was like 2500. Most people only get liability on bikes because full coverage is rediculous.

Re: motorcycle insurance??

It depends on your driving record/history, the history of the bike you're looking at with the insurance company, either the size of the motor or the classification (sport, standard, etc.) with the company, and the type of insurance you have.

I paid $120 a year for liability on a Yamaha XJ600S from the time I was 20 - 24 years old. Now that I'm 25, I am paying $360ish for full coverage on my SV650s. But keep in mind I've also been riding for 7 years now with a legitimate motorcycle license and not just a permit.

I have a 78 Yamaha 650cc, 21 years old with a long driving record. I pay $92/year with Farmers Insurance.
