Re: headlight problems

Welcome to the forum!

Are you sure the issue is inside the lens? Often the outside gets hazed over. You can get one of the many headlight polishing kits which involve a process of wet sanding, buffing and sealing the plastic lens, or you can pick up a set of DOT-approved aftermarket assemblies from one of the auction sites.

Re: headlight problems

This question came up very recently and many people offered advise. Some very detailed solutions have been noted in previous posts.
My solution is quick and inexpensive and it makes the headlights look like new for six months or so. All I do is put some liquid turtlewax polishing compound on my orbital buffer and polish the headlights the same way you would polish the paint. Be sure to keep the buffer bonnet wet as you polish. It takes me about five minutes per headlight and transforms foggy yellow headlights to crystal clear new looking headlights.
Of course results will vary, you buffer may be different so use caution as not to damage your headlights.

Good luck,

Re: headlight problems

I bought some headlight lens cleaner from AutoZone or Advance Auto for like 20 dollars. The only problem I saw with this is you have to clean the inside of the lens as well and there glued on to the unit. Supposed to be water tight. I also saw brand new ones on eBay for about 80 bucks a piece. I was debating which I was going to do until I went to a local junk yard and saw nice ones. I got two of them for 50 bucks. I'de look in a junk yard first to see if anyone just recently replaced them then the car got junked because there cheap money there. If not get the cleaner from your closest auto store and do it yourself.

Re: headlight problems

What year is your Taurus, and do you need both headlights? I have a couple of OEM lights from my '98 SHO that I'd like to get out of my garage. One of them had some fine pitting, the other side was like new. I think it was the driver's side that had the pitting.
