Single turbo for 3000gt sl?

Hey i have a 3000gt sl and it has 222hp. I dont know if you can put a single turbo on a 3000gt sl? For example:If you have a 3000gt sl could you put on a 20g turbo on it? I search everywhere but there is no question that is similar to this one. Can somebody answer this if you know?

Re: Single turbo for 3000gt sl?

You can get single turbos for your SL. I'm not sure who makes them, mabye Greddy? You would probably be better off just doing a twin turbo conversion off of a VR4. Another thing is that your car doesn't have 222hp because it is said that Mitsubishi overrated it although some will beg to differ. I think it has areound 205hp or so.

Re: Single turbo for 3000gt sl?

if you want to make a custom single turbo job, the biggest aspect that you will have to deal with is the fabrication of exhaust manifolds that will come connect before the turbo... good luck

Exactly, that is why most go with the TT route, because they can use many vr4 parts, such as the exhaust manifolds. Otherwise you are going to have to get a set fabricated for your custom setup.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

that will all depend on how well you can tune your car. Get a datalogger.

You would have to look at the turbo specs to try and find one with similar flow characteristics to a pair of 9B's. The problem is the SL has a higher compression ratio than the vr-4, so if you're going to run more than stock vr-4 boost, knock will be an issue. Listen to Hotshot, he has a TT'd SL i believe.

What's the reason you want to go with a single setup vs twins?

EDIT: sorry, got confused between the OP and new poster, just realized you have a VR-4.
You should be able to safely run about 14psi before knock becomes an issue. A single turbo that's equivalant the the 2 9B's? not sure how you figure that out, but i would think you just find one that flows twice the CFM of a 9b? The issue with that is lag.
There's a nice chart on stealth316.com about flow rates and whatnot.
