Semi Restoration of Vanagon/Wasserboxer
I have a water cooled vanagon I'm restoring. Currently isn't running, and just wondering how others would do it.
Right now, I'm in the process of pulling the engine and going to hit it with degreaser, change the push rods, and replace hoses that are necessary. It's been sitting for ~15 years, possibly more. Where would you guys start out? |

Re: Semi Restoration of Vanagon/Wasserboxer
G'day, welcome the forum!
Got any photos of it? If you haven't pulled the engine yet, then run a compression test on it, thats a good indication of piston and cylinder wear. Is it fuel injected or carb? You'll also need to go over the brakes and suspension. I would do a full rebuild on the brakes, sitting for that long it's very possible some corrosion has occurred in the calipers and master cylinder.
