Question 96 Villager Shakes then stops

I'm doing some research here for a friend trying to get her Van working again. She told me that her van starts up properly(I am assuming cold) and drives fine, however when she comes to a stop it shakes erratically and then dies. Can somebody provide me with information on how to pull the CEL codes so I can post them up here and get some help on this? Thanks a ton in advance!

Welcome to AF

Go to autozone and they will read them for free, they'll just try to sell you parts.
Remember that a code directs you a compotent circuit that may be faulty, it does not mean that the compotent is faulty. It directs you to what to diagnose.

Can you get more info please . Does it start and then stop reight away when cold unless accelerator is appled? When was the last tune up?
Does it die at stop when engine is cold or at normal operating temperature?
What is the normal operating temperature? (Where is the temp gauge needle at normal temp)
Does the transmission shift smoothly or have harsh shifts?

How many miles on engine?

I would first clean the throttle body with throttle body cleaner and also check and clean the MAF sensor by the air cleaner being careful not to damage small wire.

Any information you can give us will be helpful.

Re: 96 Villager Shakes then stops

I will get this information later, however there is no Autozone nearby. Would NAPA do it for free? How much do ODB2 code readers cost? I know on my 93 accord (odb1) i can jumper the connector and get the readout of the codes on the cluster. Is this possible with the Villager?

Thanks, in advance.

Here is a picture of pin connector to get codes and location.
Turn ingition switch to off, disconect pin connector.
Turn ignition switch to run position and hook up jumper wire to indicated pins for 2 seconds no more no less and disconnect jumper wire.
Check engine light will flash example 1 fash pause 2 flashes = 12
Codes will continue to flash so you do not have to hurry to get them read.

Napa may check them, give them a call.

Post codes.

In the engine compartment, driver side. Look just above the starter to the left (towards passenger side) connector should be there. Use the picture with the connector pins for a reference.

Hopefully this works:

I tried getting picture bigger but did not work using photobucket so use the link.

If anyone can help me as to how to post larger picture that would be great. Send me a PM with instructions. Thanks

Thumbs up Re: 96 Villager Shakes then stops

So I guess she's just going to take her car into the shop. Sorry I can't post the codes up but if it was my car then I'd definitely have those codes posted asap.

You helped me out so i can help you out. To put an image into here.
PHP Code:
copy the below and put your image link in between the img tags

Thanks again, and sorry I couldn't help with the codes. There might come a time when I need this information so it's good to have.
