Never Seen This Before. How Would You Tackle It?
Tried to go out riding and started fine. was warming it up and idling around. started to get on the throttle and i heard a soft pop and would run like 1 cylinder was firing. did a compression test. 30psi clutch side and 130psi muffler side. my question there are pretty damn deep groves worn into the sleeve. what would you do? re-sleeve and new pistons/rings? let me know. thanks! otherwise its been a great sled. I got under it the other day to shoot the grease fittings everything took the way it was supposed to. track is in great shape. I would like to fix it enough to get me through the season. funny thing was tho I went riding the weekend before and was WOT most of the ride. I was on a empty farm on packed powder and it was running amazing. not sure what to think here...

Re: Never Seen This Before. How Would You Tackle It?
Ew....rebuild time.
Had similar carnage on an old blaster. Had a fresh rebuild. Started running like shit and knocking. Pulled it apart. Turned out that the piston/rod pin (not sure the technical term but its the cylinder shaped piece that holds the piston to the rod) was sliding out of the side of the piston and hitting the cylinder walls and ports. The reason it did it was because the guy that build it didnt put the clip on one side of the piston, allowing the pin to slide out the other side. But in your situation, considering the position of the scars in relation to the rod, doesnt look like you have the same problem as we did.

Re: Never Seen This Before. How Would You Tackle It?
I had a similar problem on my 600SP last year, tuned it a bit lean and burnt a part of one of the piston rings and grooved the sleeve. Fortunately, I was able to have it honed out and it was good to rock, but my grooves were not NEARLY as deep or long as yours. I would just re-sleeve just to be safe.
What kind of sled? |

I think its a bike Garrett.
Resleeve the shit, or get a new block. Either way thats not something that will buff out. ![]() VG, I believe you are talking about the wrist pin. |
