Fujimi F40 or Tamiya F40?
Quick poll guys for a 1/24th F40
Which is better? The Tamiya kit or the Fujimi kit? I have seen both built to very high standards, and I was hoping there is someone out there who has built or has some insight on both kits. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Fujimi F40 or Tamiya F40?
that's easy...
if you want quick build no need details, go for fujimi. if you want full realistic details, take tamiya... so the question is back to yourself. marc

The Tamiya has got a full engine and an opening engine hood, but the fit of that same hood is more often than not very bad. However, the Fujimi has got much more and better detail in other areas, like suspension and brakes. The Fujimi F40 LM kit also comes with PE parts (I don't know if that is the case for the street version kit too). |

Re: Fujimi F40 or Tamiya F40?
fixing the "flaws" in the tamiya kit is going to be less work than making a Fujimi kit into an opening rear + engine car.
the real question, as pointed out before, is how do you think you can build either kit and how much work do you want to put in? On a related note; the better kit doesn't automatically equate to the better result. Curbside kits also aren't always the worse kit; just less detailed so depending on what you want it is either a good thing or a bad thing. So again, in case you missed it, what do you want in the kit?

Re: Fujimi F40 or Tamiya F40?
I have only bought the Tamiya kit and run some quick dry fit on it. What I found is, true! The rear hood does not fit well and a little work necessary to get it in place. Also, due to the age of the mold, mold lines and a lot of sharp edges need to be smooth out, quite some work before paint can be applied!
On the other hand, Fujimi kits always provide wheel and tires of incorrect size (usually undersized)! To me, other than the body, wheels and tires are the next important factor that affects the look of a model car. |

Re: Fujimi F40 or Tamiya F40?
Tamiya's offering has better scope. You can dictate how far you want to go with the detailling, etc. Tamiya's kits of this era are probably some of their best as opposed to the detail corner cutting of their more recent releases.
Fujimi's kit are 'good'. Simple construction methods, etc. You may probably find that you want a little more when building a Fujimi kit and this is where the Tamiya example fills the gaps. |
