EGR problem code 32, 93 GMC Sierra v6

The engine light came on. When I checked, I got error code 32. Chugs under load. Gets better when I let off the gas. I replaced the EGR valve. It was good for a few days, then same problem. I replaced the egr solenoid. No luck. Since then, I've replaced:

distributor cap
rotor
ignition wires

No luck. So I stuck in the old EGR valve. No change. The problem seems to be worse when the truck is cold, and when it rains. When it's warm it's better, but the engine light still comes on.

Long before this problem started, I installed an aftermarket temp guage. Lately, it's been sitting at about 170. Is there any chance this is the problem?

Sounds like a vacuum issue.

Try this:

With the truck running, take a can of starting fluid and spray it around the intake manifold and hoses, taking care not to direct the spray into the carb.

If the engine increases in speed, check that area to see if there is a hose that could be cracked or a plug or seal missing from the manifold. If it kicks up RPMs around the manifold, you'll have to replace that gasket.

If not, you should have a nice clean manifold when you're done!

Re: EGR problem code 32, 93 GMC Sierra v6

I had a problem of poor performance in rainy conditions too. It turned out to be a dying fuel pump. Apparently the mixture was lean but functional when dry but in damp conditions, the truck ran very rough. As for the code 32, I'm having a similar nusiance light pop on to my frustration. I cleaned the egr valve, replaced the solenoid and all seems to work. I get the indicator light only after it warms up. I know the egr system does not kick in untill the truck reaches normal operating temps. Other than the light on, the truck drives beautifully. Seems like just a emissions fault and its very frustrating.

You were right. I swapped the fuel pump last week. It now runs great, but I still get that annoying engine light (code 32) once in a while.
