Instrument Cluster Dead in 2001 Aurora

Last night as I was driving my 4.0 V8 '01 Aurora, my instrument cluster slowly began to drop from my actual speed, actual tach, gas, etc. to zero. I lost my odometer, trip, all warning lights, etc. as well. When I turn on the signals, the four-way flashers appear in the cluster, but the turn signals do work.

Has anyone experienced this? I see that GM has had a problem in some of their newer models.

Any ideas where to look to solve this?

Thanks!

Well......guess I'm alone on this, but spent evening reading Internet posts and found it may be a security issue. Locked all doors with FOB (which I always do), unlocked, car started and everything is now working. Go figure.

Re: Instrument Cluster Dead in 2001 Aurora

YOu are not alone in this. I have a 95 that has been torment. I year ago, the lights and cluster died. I changed the fuse and it worked then went out again. I have had 3 clusters and none work correctly. The one I have now, works sometimes. Temp and TAch work. Speed sometimes and fuel stay on full. Oil light stays on and the odometer doesn't work when speed doesn't.
I have to keep up with how much gas I buy and use and calculate it every time. Also with this cluster, the cruise will not work. Apparently there is a number missing on the part that is not the right match.

Total nightmare.

I also have a 95 and the cluster actually freaks out every so often. All needles jumping up and down like a kid on a trampoline, then going all the way up and staying there for awhile, or all the way down and staying there for awhile. The chime also goes on and on and on and on and on, sometimes for half an hour at a time. I'm about to replace the cluster and see if that works, although I think it's more of a grounding issue somewhere.

BTW: Chrisinsurance, I have to agree with the "nightmare" comment, although I truely adore everything that is not electrically wrong with the car

A bit OT, but maybe the fuel gauge issue is another matter entirely? Does it stay on Full all the time, or flip back up there once you reach 1/2- or 1/4-tank?

It stays on full all of the time except when the engine is off. Sounds like the fuel pump stays on too long once I turn the engine off. Someone told the filter needed to be changed....
