Re: wip of friends whip

well I hope you get back on track soon. It's pretty slow around here. I'm only hangin on for you.

Here's a look at the paths going into this one.

Last time out (the VW Bus) I struggled at this point as I wasn't sure where I was going. I'm not struggling as much this time as though the final destination may not be the ultimate, it is a path (pun intended) I've been down before.

I will be copying parts of this to a new path layer and doing some of the hilite stuff like I usually do in Illy. I'm not entirely sure why but I know that I want to have more selection options done ahead of time this time.

I also plan on doing the greyscale thing and bringing my image into Illy to do things like the Speedwell text on the wheel caps and a couple other things.

The art at this stage seems broken and it can be discouraging like I said, but the careful planning in the line stage should pay off for us when we get to the render bits.

All in all I'm ok with it. It's a nice distractor while I gear up for the next go round of shirt stuff.

Re: wip of friends whip

Great work to start. I'm one of those that would be overwhelm at that level.
I can see where planning plays an important role in this process.

And thanks for helping to keep things alive on here.

Re: wip of friends whip

In any case I finally got to some color. This one is really coming along even though it's in these baby spurts....yeah, hold on to that visual and let it soak in...yeah. I made note of something Jeremy Duncan told me about this method. I started to render parts in full on multiple layers then once satisfied I merge them together. When I did the tire I actually rendered over the car body. I then used the car body layer as a selection and subtracted it from the merged tire layers. Really speeds up the process.

I wanted the tires to have a distinct toony rubbery look so I danced a little sky blue across that hot spot on the tread and I think it landed it pretty good for now. Once the drawing is fully rendered I'll go back in and punch some areas out but for tonight's update I'm ok with it.

Interesting drawing technique, I do a similar style in Espression, drawing/color filling full shapes "objects" in overlapping layers. Don't do a substraction or layer merge, instead just slam all layers together when saving the finished vector design as a jpg file. I often use "erased" or transparent objects in the upper body layer for see thru windows effect, and if I merged some vector layers before converting, than the "erased" effect continues thru any lower objects.
But as a PS technique, I can see how that would save time, may have to make another stab at coloring with PS.

The tires have a very toony look--well done.

I put a tute on my site covering this method. It takes about 30 seconds to launch so be patient
