engine starts loosing power

hello, i have a 1992 taurus, 3.0. it acts like its starving for gas when i rev it up. The trouble codes are 172 -lack of heated oxygen sensor lean bank 1 , and 176 same except bank 2. code 326-egr(pfe)dpfe low cicuit voltage. could it be the fuel pump pressure?
both o2 sensors?

It idles and runs a low rpm just fine. any ideas

Your codes sound like the pre-OBD-2 version of the P0171 and P0174 codes which typically were caused by a faulty DPFE sensor. Since you also have a code for the DPFE, you may want to just go ahead and replace it. Make sure to keep track of which hose goes where.

thanks, i didnt see the dpfe sensor when i was getting the codes. i did see the egr and the egr control solenoid. ill try to find it tomorrow. Im going to the parts store to get a fuel pressure tester . i think the pressure needs to be 35-45. Is that correct?is it possible i have a pfe and not a dpfe. or are they the same thing?

I don't have the specs for the 1992 model year, but would expect it to be similar to the 1994 model year. For 1994, fuel pressure with the engine running should be 30-45 psi. With the engine off, key on, the fuel pressure should be 37-43 psi.

The EGR Control Solenoid is probably the PFE sensor. If your car has the PFE sensor, that takes the place of the DPFE.

A plugged fuel filter may cause the engine to loose power, as it lowers the fuel pressure below specification. In winter, water in the gas can freeze in the fuel system. You could put some gasoline deicer in your gas tank.

just an update, it was the maf that was dirty . after changing the sensor i got no codes but i still thought i had a problem. when i would rev the engine it would still cut out. i didn't know it has rev limiter. after 2 more days of scratching my head, i took it for a test drive and it works perfect. thanks for the input. i sold it and i am getting another 92 with the 3.0 push rod motor.
it overheats and the guy was told it has a bad head gasket. is that hard to change ?

They say there is a rev limiter on it. Surprised you solved the problem with a MAF cleaning. Good for you. If I recall correctly, I could be wrong, but problems with the MAF can give the lean codes bilaterally as you had, but the PFE voltage low is unrelated to the MAF and would indicate that the PFE is plugged up or bad. I'm not sure if the OBD I system detects a problem with the EGR solenoid or not. I'm guessing the EGR codes would point to it indirectly only as an EGR problem.
