2000 Blazer Starting Issues

I have seen a bunch of posts here about this, but nothing exactly the same. It has been snowing here a lot lately so my Blazer (2wd) has been sitting under a blanket of snow for about a week. Yesterday I went out to start it and it won't start now. Never had a single problem with it before I parked it. It has a new battery, 62lbs of fuel pressure and good spark. The weird thing it does is when it cranks it will crank 4 or 5 times and then "drag" for one crank (or revolution) causing the lights to dim, and then crank good 4 or 5 times again. This will keep repeating. Any ideas on this? Thanks in advance.

Re: 2000 Blazer Starting Issues

Welcome to AF
I would try a jumper on it or a battery charger.

Could have dirty battery cabels pos or ground or a lose one or just bad ground.
Or someting running battery down.

A bad new battery or charging system not keeping battery up.

After you get it started and running check battery and chargng system.
When was the last tune up and how is the fuel filter?
Post back how it goes.

Ok, tried the battery jump and it didn't work. Really it cranks hard and fast, I don;t think the battery is the problem. Fuel pump / filter replaced 2 months ago. Next?

What are the tell-tale signs of a crank or cam sensor?

What engine?
And engine code?
Recheck.
Check for good hot blue spark to more than one spark plug.

If good spark check fuel pressure.
Recheck fuel pressure.
The V6 engine needs 64/65 lbs of fuel pressure when cranking cold to start it.

Did you get it flooded.
Pull plugs and see if they are wet or dryon end and make sure you have good spark to more than one plug.

What brand of fuel pump?
Always check fuel filter for being stopped up?
Has the tank got gas in it?

Re: 2000 Blazer Starting Issues

Update!! Got it started. Turned a hair dryer on high, pointed at the top of the distributor, and let it sit there for about an hour. Blazer started right up.

Re: 2000 Blazer Starting Issues

Thanks for posting back how it went.
You may be drawing moisture in the cap.
Better be getting a new ACdelco cap and rotor.
Or you may be doing that again.
Good luck
