Camshaft Position Sensor???
I have a 98 neon 2.0 SOHC. I scanned the car for codes and got the P0340 code which is the camshaft position sensor. I replaced the sensor today along with the wiring harness and i went and cleared the codes. Went to go start the car and it turns over but will not start still. I re-ran the codes and got the same P0340 code. Is there something else i can do? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank You

Are all the wires in good condition? How long did you crank it for?

You say you replaced the harness also?

Re: Camshaft Position Sensor???
I have heard of a faulty crank signal causing a cam sensor code. I'm not saying replace the crank sensor, check the signal circuit, with the engine cranking. That signal is dc pulse, if you have a dmm with a tach--dwell--duty cycle setting, anything like that will react to a dc pulse. You could turn the key on, turn the crank by hand, watch for a high--low signal on that circuit. It should switch between 5 volts and close to zero. Maybe you already checked all this, I didn't read it in your post.
I guess your saying the vehicle cranks good, but during cranking, there is no spark at the plugs or injector pulse? |

Re: Camshaft Position Sensor???
On the cam sensor, the signal wire should be tan/yellow.
For the crank sensor, the signal wire should be gray/black, that should be a gray wire with black tracer. Your going to have to do the testing, I can't do that from here. |

Re: Camshaft Position Sensor???
Yep, that can be a pain. Hopefully it didn't bend any valves. Make sure you check compression.

Re: Camshaft Position Sensor???
Hello fellow enthusiasts,
I am facing some valve replacement here on 95'Highline. And surely I'd like to start with some questions. I did some walking-talking around through some local shops and collected some mixing ideas. Someone said I'll have to replace ALL valves, some says NOT. Some says that cylinders head MUST be removed and checked, some says it could be ok by visual examination. Another thing is to remove the engine or do as Haynes manual described with that air tool and without removing the head. In case if I decided to pull the engine out. Are these engine stands from Harbor Freight will do any good or I'll have to be creative? To disconnect transmission from engine - any good advise? I may decide to replace rear main seal. Yeah, sounds like load of do's. |

Re: Camshaft Position Sensor???
I personally would replace all the valves for peace of mind.
Head should be checked for straightness, but visual if not enough. Any engine stand should do you good. Pull the motor and tranny out together.
