I slammed on my brakes the other day to avoid hitting a dog in the road, the ABS engaged like i assumed they would. But ever since they have been malfunctioning. When I'm slowing down the ABS will engage (making the noise and hardening of the pedal) even sometimes without applying the brakes. When trying to stop its very hard to stop. It also seems to be pulling to the right when I apply the brakes. Any help would be great. Also the ABS light on the dash comes on once in a while.
Thanks so much. |

Re: 97' Z71 Brake issue (HELP)
1st off get the ABS code that's turning on the light. May be in ABS history if the light is not on at the time. Post back the code number/numbers not just a description.
Check the brakes for broken rotors, pads or a stuck caliper. We get snow where we live. I like to excersize the ABS system during the winters on snow covered roads in the 2 trucks I have with ABS just for grins and to make sure nothing abnormal happens.

Re: 97' Z71 Brake issue (HELP)
I spoke with the owner of a tire shop last night, he said that this is fairly common, that when the brakes are hit hard the cable that goes to the ABS senor is knocked loose and it causes them to malfunction, I am going to tear it appart tonight and we'll see.

Re: 97' Z71 Brake issue (HELP)
Just following up for those who were interested.
One of the ABS sensor cables was not connected and was the issue, and also one of the pads was pretty worn so that may have not been helping either. |
