'84 720 2.4 carb prob..

I have an '84 720 2.4 king cab with a rich fuel, bad timing, thing going on. Mixture is rich (smell gas) and the car spits and sputters like a bad fuel filter. It normally runs smooth without any vibration. Now it's shaking like an earth quake. I changed the fuel filter....no help. My idle has always been way high in cold weather....Car always and still starts right up. Auto choke? ???
