2000 Jeep Cherokee stalling at idle

My 4.0 engine shuts off when I don't have my foot on the gas pedal. It starts fine and drives okay, but when I stop at a light, the engine shuts off most of the time or idles really rough.

It's temperature related, this problem began earlier this year around March, but it only happened on days when it was cool outside. Once the heat of summer came around, the problem went away. Now that it's cool again, I am having trouble.

Any ideas? I've read several posts from others with the same problem, but have yet to read about anyone who has actually solved this issue. Some follow up from someone who resolved this would be nice.

Thanks.

any engine light there was a tsb to install a heat shield on #2 cylinder injector...also could be a bad battery, or you may need a good tb and combustion chamber de-carbonization...

The next time it does this, remove the air intake hose and check around the throttle plate for ice build-up.
I know it sounds bizzarre, but the decrease in air pressure around the throttle plate can promote the precipitation of moisture from the air and allow it to settle on the idle air control passages, as ice, this impeding air flow to the IAC.

It's the same concept as 'carburetor icing' and would explain why this only happens during cool temps.

Replaced the battery, all is well so far, however, this is my 4th battery in 6 years.

I would have your alternator tested....sometimes when alternators fail they produce reduced voltage at lower rpms. Do your lights dim when idling and running a lot of electrical stuff?
