Stock GSX

I have a bone stock GSX and ever since the day I got it one of my buddies has been wanting to race me. If I do race him it will be on the track with all the safety precautions and everything. But my question is what are the simplist steps I could take to the GSX's performance to make it capable of soundly beating my friends 2000 mustang gt with its 4.6 liter engine and cold air intake as well as other vehicles?

Re: Stock GSX

First Welcome to AF

300 whp is not easily obtained. It will be a lot of work and money. You could do some bolt ons and get a little bit more power but its not going to be cheap to make that much power. If you want to beat your friend best thing to do is practice launching the car. If you can launch the car good off the line you may have a chance. Stock gsx only runs like a mid to low 15s 1/4.

Re: Stock GSX

I'd give it a bit more credit than that Jason. I forget his name (talon69 maybe?), but his license plate was "VTECTHS" from New York. I remember seeing a video of his 2g GSX with nothing more than a 3" exhaust and I think the boost pressure upped a couple pounds (on a t-25 upping it from stock barely does anything to the airflow) and he ran a 13.7. Granted he had to have been a pretty good driver, but I cant see a second and a half falling off with just an exhaust.

As for the OP, welcome! We'd be glad to help out, but take a couple minutes to look around for an answer before you post up right away. There is a good upgrade path on www.dsmtuners.com that you should check out. Other than that, read, read, read! Know what you're doing before you mod the car, the mod process will be much easier and hassle free.

you know I remember that video too. I just don't believe everything was as he said it was. I remember removed bcs and 3 tback but there was more wheteher it be weight reduction or what but still no chance at 13.7 on t-25 with only a tback. Look a jason's mods and he is 13.8. My friend with a gst convertible stock can't break into the 15's cause of the extra weight and fwd.

Re: Stock GSX

Also look at my 60' time of a 2.37 to go with that time. Car should easily be in the low 13s. But thats besides the point.

Re: Stock GSX

id say race em stock, then you'd have a base to go on so you'd know how much you improved the time after you added mods. id like to see a comparison between each part and what you ran

Re: Stock GSX

Okay thank you all for the advice. I've seen faqs before about how to launch an AWD like the GSX but I was wondering if any of you know what the right steps should be before the launch because ive heard of people having bogging problems directly after the launch.

Re: Stock GSX

You have to slip the clutch out some until the car gets going. Rev it to around 4k or so and slip the clutch out quickly. To much and you will burn it up. Its just something you have to learn.

Re: Stock GSX

Okay thanks. So around 4k rpm is good for the gsx with the 4g63 as well as with the 420a when it comes to launching. I didnt know because Ive heard that a fwd launch is much different than awd.

No no I never said anything about a fwd car. Your car is AWD so I told you how to launch an AWD car.
